THE ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVY LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL
Obverse: An Uncrowned Effigy of the Sovereign.
Reverse: A representation of HMS Victory inside a circle of rope. Inscribed around the outside is the legend “FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT”.
Size: 36mm in diameter.
Ribbon: 32mm wide, the ribbon is dark blue with a 6mm white stripe at each edge.
Suspension: By a plain straight suspender.
On 9th May, 1985, Queen Elizabeth II approved the creation of this new long service award for ratings and non-commissioned officers of the Royal New Zealand Navy who have completed fifteen years’ service. The award was backdated to 1st December, 1977. Bars may be awarded upon completion of a subsequent similar period of service.
Any rating who is commissioned after having served in the ranks for twelve years of more, may receive the award upon completion of the full period of service.
Prior to 1985, members of the Royal New Zealand Navy were awarded the Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, awarded for eighteen years service.
