November 2009
Our membership numbers remain steady. In fact we have slightly more members than we did in 2004. When we break these down into categories unsurprisingly we have a substantial decrease in our number of Returned Service members. We have only a small decrease in our number of Service members and we have an increase of some 300 Associate members in the last 5 years.
The restaurant will be open right up until Christmas Eve, it will then be closed on 25th and 26th of December. It will be open on Sunday 27th as usual and also on Wednesday and Thursday 30th and 31st of December before closing from 1st to 12 January for a well earned holiday break for Geoff and his team. Thanks Geoff and all the staff for another great year.
Recently both RSA Darts and Golf Nationals were held.
The darts took place in Tauranga. This tournament is used as a selection process for next years Inter Dominion Tournament in Victoria and two of our players, Ron Glavish and Dave Green, have been selected to be part of the team travelling to Aussie in April. Well done to both of them.
The golf was held in Hastings and our three representatives, Tommy Winton, Winston Tauteka and Steve Lavery, were all among the prize-winners. Well done to all three of them.
The two new Big Screen TV's are now in place. The Sports bar boasts a 60" model, with the previous 47" being moved to the darts area. There is now also a 50" TV in the lounge area. They really proved their worth on Melbourne Cup day as everyone had a great view of the races wherever they were seated. Our thanks to the North Shore Branch of the Ex Air Force Association who donated funds, which paid for the TV in the Lounge.
We have some new acts lined up for 2010. Our act for New Years Eve this year is Roger Skinner and the Motivation. There will be reserved seating available in the lounge as usual at $5 for members and $10 for guests. We have been informed that the Sunday Club will be held on one Sunday per month next year instead of two, and these dates will be well advertised in advance.
A pensions review day was held in the club recently and was well attended by many people seeking advice and assistance. Our thanks to the Auckland district who organised that day.
The member's draw now takes place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, going up $50 per night. If unclaimed after six weeks this draw will reach $1000 and it will then be frozen at that amount but will continue to be drawn for another six weeks at that amount, and if not won after 12 weeks it will be drawn on the Friday until a winner is found. Also from week 6-12 a second draw will commence alongside the first one so you have two chances to win. Already we have had a Wednesday winner. So remember, "It could be you" you just have to be here.
The Big Xmas Draw will be held on Friday 18 December with as usual close to $5000 of prizes available, including a 1st prize of $1000. Ticket entries for this will be on sale from the beginning of December.
Sunday February 21st is Picnic Day. Usual place Little Shoal Bay, 11am-4pm. All the usual fun and games: BBQ, Races, Clowns, Children's Rides, Beer Tent. Bring the family
Please remember, much as we want you to come to the club and enjoy yourselves, please do not drink and drive. The shuttle is available on Friday nights.
Have a great festive season. My thanks to all the staff for their hard work during the last year.
Thank you all for your continued support of the club.
